I was so pleased to chat with Claire Winter this week on Creating Active Lives as if you’ve been following me at all you will know two of my main passions are walking and writing. Claire is a word Creatrix, a storyteller, a creativity and writing coach, and an award-winning podcaster. She blends coaching and mentoring to ignite her clients’ creativity, helping them share their authentic voices and stories with the world.
As a former journalist at ITN in radio and television, Claire brings a unique perspective to the importance of creativity, not just in physical movement but as a crucial brain activity. We chatted about the power of creativity, the connection between walking, nature, and writing, and how these elements can transform our lives. Claire shared her journey, highlighting how she discovered the link between nature and creativity during walks. She emphasizes the benefits of spending mindful time in nature, connecting with all the senses and finding inspiration. Claire’s Creatrix journey, a combination of walking and writing, has yielded incredible results for her clients, including poets, career changers, and individuals embracing new creative expressions.
We then went on to discuss simple strategies such as nature-inspired writing, sensory experiences, and the power of visualizations for those who may face mobility challenges. Claire encourages embracing imperfection in writing, letting go of perfectionist tendencies, and finding joy in the act of creation.
We explored various creative outlets, including sketching, foraging, breathwork, and cold water immersion, all contributing to mental and creative well-being. Claire emphasizes the importance of finding what works for each individual and gives examples of transformations, from writing poetry to career changes.
